Knodo ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the Knodo mobile application (the "App"). By using Knodo, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
- Facts and Content: Text, voice transcriptions, and scanned text you save within the App. This data is stored locally on your device.
- Categories and Tags: Organization labels you create or that AI suggests for your content.
- Account Information: If you subscribe to Premium, your purchase is processed through Apple's App Store. We do not collect or store your payment information.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Usage Analytics: We collect anonymized analytics data (e.g., feature usage frequency, session duration) to improve the App. This data cannot be used to identify you personally.
- Crash Reports: Anonymized crash reports and performance data to help us fix bugs and improve stability.
- Device Information: Basic device type and iOS version for compatibility purposes.
2.3 Information We Do NOT Collect
- Your name, email address, or contact information (unless you contact us directly for support)
- Location data
- Contacts, photos, or other personal files beyond what you explicitly scan with the OCR feature
- Browsing history
3. How We Use Your Information
- AI Expansion: When you use the AI Expansion feature, the text of the specific fact you choose to expand is sent to our AI service provider to generate contextual information. This data is not stored on our servers after processing.
- Smart Connections: AI-generated connections between your facts are processed to help you discover relationships in your knowledge vault.
- App Improvement: Anonymized analytics help us understand which features are most valuable and where to improve.
- Customer Support: If you contact us, we use your message to respond and resolve your issue.
4. Data Storage and Security
- Local Storage: All your facts, categories, tags, and associated content are stored locally on your device.
- No Cloud Sync: Knodo does not sync your data to iCloud or any cloud service. Your data lives exclusively on your device.
- Encryption: Data stored on your device benefits from iOS's built-in hardware encryption when you have a passcode enabled.
- AI Processing: Fact text sent for AI expansion is transmitted over encrypted connections (TLS/SSL) and is not retained by our AI service provider after processing.
5. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Google Gemini AI: Powers the AI Expansion and Smart Connections features. Only the specific fact text you choose to expand is shared. See Google's AI Terms.
- Firebase Analytics & Crashlytics: Collects anonymized usage and crash data. See Firebase Privacy.
- RevenueCat: Manages in-app subscriptions and purchase validation. May collect anonymized purchase and device data. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
- Apple App Store: Handles all subscription transactions. See Apple's Privacy Policy.
6. Data Retention
- Your facts and content are stored on your device for as long as you keep the App installed.
- If you delete the App, all locally stored data is permanently removed.
- Anonymized analytics data is retained for up to 14 months to identify usage trends.
- AI expansion requests are not retained after processing is complete.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Delete Your Data: Uninstalling the App removes all locally stored data. You can also delete individual facts within the App.
- Opt Out of Analytics: You can disable analytics collection in the App's settings.
- Request Information: Contact us to learn what anonymized data, if any, we have associated with your device.
8. Children's Privacy
Knodo is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete such information.
9. International Users
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or other regions with data protection laws, you have additional rights under applicable legislation including GDPR. Since your data is stored locally on your device and we do not maintain user accounts or personal databases, most GDPR provisions are addressed by design. 10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated policy within the App and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of Knodo after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
